A mum from Cheshire has been left only able to eat soft foods after her throat was scalded by a cup of coffee
A shocked mum was left with a horror red mark on her neck after drinking a scalding hot coffee. Wendy Johnson said she was “burned from the inside out,” after heating her drink up in the microwave.
Wendy decided to put her morning brew into the microwave for 40 seconds to warm it up last week on Wednesday, April 30.
The 27-year-old gulped it down without realising how hot it was and felt like she’d been “stabbed in the chest.”
She downed a glass of cold water to try and ease the pain but was left with burns on the inside and outside of her throat.
“It felt like I’d been stabbed in the chest,” Wendy, of Widnes, Cheshire, told What’s the Jam.
“I put too much milk in my coffee so it was cool and I put it in the microwave to heat it up.
“When I had a drink, I didn’t realise how hot it was. Usually, you’d spit it out but my body told me to swallow it.
“Then my friend noticed my neck was bright red. I was burned from the inside out.”
The mum-of-one rang 111 who told her to go to A&E if her throat started to swell.
She has only been able to eat soft food since it happened on Wednesday.

Wendy said: “It feels like constant heartburn. My voice is really dry and croaky.
“I’ve been told not to eat anything acidic or spicy and I’ve been drinking freezing cold water.
“I can’t swallow food so I’ve been eating cake and custard.”
Wendy works in urgent care and says she’s never seen burns like this before.
She added: “I’ve dealt with burns but not like this, burning from the inside out.
“People should be careful drinking hot drinks and not microwave their brew.”
