Jon calls Sally ‘strategic’ and ‘ruthless’ after Bargain Hunt segment
BBC Breakfast’s Sally Nugent didn’t hold back as she stopped co-host Jon Kay in his tracks following his ‘ruthless’ quip.
On the March 12 broadcast of the popular morning programme, the pair graced the iconic red sofa once more to run through the biggest news of the day.
Conversation soon shifted to their involvement on BBC’s Bargain Hunt, where they competed in a special edition commemorating the show’s 25th anniversary.
The competitive streak between the two was palpable as Jon labelled Sally ‘completely ruthless’. Reflecting on their Bargain Hunt highlights, Jon remarked: “I’ve just noticed that I didn’t even say well done so well done.”

To which Sally jestingly responded: “Say it like you mean it”, reports the Express. Jon humorously conceded: “Well done Sal.”
He then highlighted Sally’s fierce gameplay: “You got really into it. You were like ‘I don’t know what I’m doing, I’ll just buy anything’ but you were utterly strategic, completely ruthless and you knew what you were doing.”
Caught off-guard by laughter, Sally quipped: “We can’t have this conversation right now.” She playfully explained: “You took it much more seriously than I did. I didn’t even know what we were meant to do.”
Jon interjected with self-deprecating humour: “I’ve been doing my homework and failed miserably, which is pretty typical I think.”
With a touch of humour, Sally mentioned: “I just thought it was a pretty tea pot and it looked nice.” Jon echoed: “Well, well done” prompting Sally to add jovially: “I’m sorry Jon. How much did you lose again?”.
In a humorous take on the situation, Jon quipped: “It will say biggest loser in Bargain Hunt history or whatever” which had Sally in fits of laughter.
The unique episode saw John stepping into the presenter’s role, while Tim Weeks, a respected figure from Bargain Hunt, guided Jon and Sally in their quest for antiques and unique treasures. During the hunt, Jon managed to secure a vintage Dinky Toy car for £129 and a tea caddy set for £40.
On the other hand, Sally showcased her knack for thriftiness by opting for a coffee grinder priced at £19 and a large teapot commemorating the Queen’s Golden Jubilee for a mere £5. In the end, Sally emerged victorious with a profit of £51, while Jon unfortunately suffered a significant loss of £104.
